Letters
I realized a few years back that it’s never a bad thing to tell the people you love that you love them, to tell them why they’re important and how they’re different from anyone else in your life.
I am not particularly good at this. I am not the warmest, fuzziest caterpillar that ever lived, and I’m definitely not great at expressing myself.
However.
I happen to have a sentimental streak a mile wide, and I think these things are important.
I can tell people what they mean to me a lot easier and better if I actually think and then write. So that’s what I’m doing.
My letter to Drew was the first I wrote with this as a conscious purpose, but I’ve since gone back and categorized a few more. I’m trying to write them on birthdays, but I’ve already missed some (Rebecca, I’m looking at *you*). I figure really *thinking* about a person and *being honest* with them about why you love them and why they’re great might be even better than buying them a shitty vanilla candle! Lightbulb!
I will catch more of you on our next revolution around the sun.

but i love shitty vanilla candles …
hey, over the past year i have thought often about your birthday letter to me. it’s been meaningful to recall it when i’ve felt discouraged or off track for one reason or another. i have decided to steal your idea. there. now you know. so not only did you ‘share the love’ to me (and the other letters you’ve written these pieces to) but now we’re out there passing it on. the world will be full of so much more love now.
