Dear Archie,
Last Thursday, you turned one year old. I don’t know how that happened. I was just staked out on the couch watching “America’s Next Top Model” reruns with you nursing and sleeping on my lap and sleeping and nursing and sleeping and sleeping, just four minutes ago. And now, you’re one. One.
You much prefer your daddy. That is your newest thing. When Daddy leaves the room, it breaks your heart. You want little to do with me, but you’ll humor me for awhile if you’re in a good mood.
You’re not yet walking, but you’re getting really close. This month, I think. You’ve started clapping and waving (you were already waving, but now it’s obviously intentional and communicative), and you respond to your name. Everyone loves to clap and wave with you. You get the cutest, biggest, sloberriest grin and flirty baby eyes.
At 12 months, you take naps in your crib and start off there at night, but you sleep with us from about midnight on. You take baths with your siblings or showers with us. You still mostly drink bottles of formula, but you’re learning how to use sippy cups. You wear clothes in 9 or 12 months sizes. You have about seven teeth, but you’re always cutting more and VERY drooly.
At one year, you like:
- crackers
- french fries (surprise)
- CAKE
- your brothers and sister
- pacifiers
- Buddy
- giggling with Griffon
- putting everything in your mouth
- baths
At one, you do NOT like:
- having your nose wiped
- laying on your back for diaper changes, etc.
- being woken to be picked up from school
- Griffon crying
- meat
You’re fun. I’m lucky to know you.
Happy birthday, lovey. I can’t wait to learn more about you, and I hope we have many more years together.
