What book – fiction or non – touched you? Where were you when you read it? Have you bought and given away multiple copies?*
Reading (books) is one of the first things I dump when I feel overwhelmed by everything I’m not doing that needs to be done. I was either pregnant with or nursing Archer all this year, so reading is not something that happened. I did read one book for fun, but it took me roughly eleventy bazillion years.
What I did read this year were blogs. Many, many blogs. Lots and lots of blogs. Way too many to detail here. The ones I absolutely cannot miss are:
- The BHJ – brilliant writing, brilliant thinking
- The Bloggess – consistent hi-fucking-larity
- The Creamery – beautiful writing, great balance of sweet and funny and social, got me to read a book (see above) :)
- Matt, Liz and Madeline – my absolute favorite… compelling stories, writing, photography, will get me to read a book
- Mommy Wants Vodka – consistent hilarity, primarily at Aunt Becky’s expense
- Motherhood in NYC – fantastic writing, storytelling, humor
- The Spohrs are Multiplying – emotionally compelling stories and memories plus baby! anticipation!
- Swistle – great stories, writing, and humor
These are the blogs that inspire me and occupy my mind well after I close Google Reader. These are the ones that elicit involuntary snorts in inappropriate locations days after I read them.
These authors make me want to improve my writing and storytelling. They keep me thinking about my own life, and ultimately, about how to be a better person.
Is there any greater gift?
